Description
Nitric Acid 2M (2N) Volumetric Solution is a liquid with a clear, colourless to slightly yellowish appearance and is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air. It has a disagreeable, pungent, acrid, and suffocating odour, with an odour threshold ranging from 0.29–0.98 ppm; however, its warning properties are considered unreliable because the odour threshold is close to the TWA level. Irritation has been reported at 60.6 ppm. The solution has a melting/freezing point of -20 °C and a boiling range of 114.7–116.4 °C at 50% concentration. Although it is not combustible, it can react with most metals to release flammable hydrogen gas, which may form explosive mixtures.
